Sicko type of Healthcare

Wow, I just watched the Michael Moore movie "Sicko" for the first time today. Let me just say that it was a real eye opener for me in many ways. I had always known previously that our healthcare system in the United States was screwed up, but I never really realized had bad it actually was.
I think that the common thread with any of the major problems we have in the world, is that people start caring more about money than people. I know that this sounds really obvious and this is not some new found discovery, but it is still appalling none the less.
I was really shocked to learn that there are hospitals that will take current patients who cannot pay out for the procedural work that they need done, and drop them off disoriented on the side of the road.
All of my life I thought we were so advanced as a society, and it seems that we are way far behind when it comes to healthcare in this country.
I could go on and on about this giant issue, but I am going to stop myself before I get way too into it.

I'm so glad you guys finally were able to see it. It truly does open your eyes to an incredible problem here in the US that needs to be tackled. And yes, I could go on and on too, but maybe not here. Glad to see you in the blogosphere!

Yay the tall kid speaks!

You have begun the discussion on the health care problem we have here in the good old US of A. As you state, we are more interested in money than people. That is the sad state of capitalism. There is no moral obligation to anything but making more money. I think democracy is a great thing, however, I think it should be based on moral values, not capitalism.

However, you can't legislate morality. You have to hope that people have the integrity to do the right thing. We have seen political leaders change the face of morality in recent years, and when they lead without morals, it can only set an awful example that trickles down to the ruination of society.

But as you say, maybe I should stop while I'm ahead.

It's a real eye opener. Unfortunately, as you started in your first post, there are many areas that reflect the nature of the natural man. So greedy, so self interested and indulgent. It seems to have changed almost over night. I know that this isn't the case. Perhaps it's just that the everyday fellow has learned to incorporate these behaviors in his life. I know that people used to be kind to each other, courteous and even compassionate. Where it was the rule, it has now become the exception.

If you go to a store that has two apples and one of them has a brown spot on it, both for the same price, guess which one he will try to sell you. Signed a contract for a house or a car recently? How many times did you sign your name. Why? Wouldn't one time do? we went to Lowe's yesterday, because I saw an ad on TV that said they would only charge $99 for a window installation if you bought the window at Lowe's. But guess what? there is a minimum of five windows. Bait and switch.

In our (what used to be a ) little town there are more empty houses than you can count. And every day there's another one and another one.

Finally (I could go on forever) you're not a politician if you're honest. It's expected that you will be crooked and a liar. That's why I won't vote for any of the two knuckleheads running. "If you don't vote, you don't have a say", "If you don't vote, you're not an American". B.S. The first Americans were revolutionists!

Matt Cheek. Glad to see you have a blog. Jason will be happy. Although I cant get him to be interested in any serious issues in this country. I'm sceptical of Michael Moore. He's way liberal and I am not, but if you say the movie is informative I might give it a shot.

I don't agree. Well not really. Ok, so I do agree, but I don't think that it is as simple as saying that the people in control of the system are BAD. They, most likely, have a very positive view of themselves. I'm sure that the CEO and board members of the multi-million+ dollar companies that control what's going on think that they are actually helping.

That is where it gets really scary, they are setting us all up for a fall by festering in complacency and ignorance. Let's be clear, they have no idea what life is like without a beach house on two coasts, a private yacht, and small fleet of cars. In fact life without these things is probably not worth living anyways, right?

They do not ignore the problem, because they are ignorant that a problem exists in the first place (I'm looking at YOU political party leaders). As tmg_founder says, the first (i.e. REAL) Americans were revolutionists, not complacent-ists.

Oh dear Adan... You are still young! To think that "they" believe they are doing the right thing is a bit naive! Of course they have a positive view of themselves! But I doubt that they even care for a moments thought about helping. The only thing that the status quo cares about, are those self interested projects. Altruism stops at about $100 grand a year and conspiracy starts at about the billion dollar level. They are not ignorant of the problems, they just simply do not care! It's a bitter pill. To think that a republican president could have such an agenda!!! And the Demo's are just stupid. But don't sell 'em short, they are just interested in the appearance of trying to do the poor a turn. What a crock of s---. They are some of the most rich. How far does the rabbit hole go? "The blue or the red pill?" Most of us have surely been to the party and have gotten plenty drunk in the promises of empty hearts. The Boston Tea Party guys are ashamed of us all!

You give them too much credit by thinking that they are even capable of understanding the difference.
